Vacuums cost money, but cleaning other hard surfaces doesn’t have to. Whatever you’re cleaning needs, you can find products around the house to make a homemade cleaner that will effectively clean different parts of your home. Many people like the idea of mixing their own homemade floor cleaner. In addition to saving money, many people like the idea of using natural products to clean, rather than toxic chemicals that can harm your health and damage the eco system. There are many different ways to mix every day products to make different cleaners.

General Purpose Floor Cleaners

If you want to make a basic floor cleaner that can be used in your bare floor cleaning machine, mix 1/3 cup of Borax with one gallon of warm water. Add one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and a tablespoon of ammonia. This solution makes a fine floor cleaning product that will not only remove tough stains, but will disinfect your kitchen and bathroom floors. To clean your wood floors, go to the pantry and mix ½ cup of white vinegar and ½ cup of vegetable oil. This natural solution will make your wood floors shine like new. The vinegar acts to remove stains and the oil helps to maintain the luster of the wood. If you have Pergo floors, you can mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar, 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup water and three drop of dishwashing liquid to make a fantastic floor cleaner. This solution can also be used in your bare floor cleaner, or with a mop. To clean a linoleum floor, mix one tablespoon of liquid soap, a quarter cup of baking soda to two gallons of hot water. Add ¼ cup of white vinegar to the mix and you have an excellent linoleum floor cleaner. This solution also works very well on tile floors.

Scented Floor Cleaners

To make a nicely scented, homemade floor cleaner, mix 1/3 cup of white vinegar to two gallons of hot water and add drops of orange essential oil or lemon essential oil to the mix. Essential oils can be found in craft shops where candle supplies are found. Even if you do not have the oils, the vinegar and water makes a great cleaner and costs a fraction of what a store bought floor cleaner costs.

Disinfectant Floor Cleaners

To disinfect a floor, use ½ cup of borax to two gallons of hot water. Borax can be found in your supermarket next to the laundry detergents and is a powder. A large box of Borax can go a long way in developing many different cleaning products. The Borax solution does not have to be rinsed after applied. It will disinfect any floor, even the bathroom. Chrome Cleaner Toothpaste, for example, makes a great chrome cleaner, as does crumpled up aluminum foil. White vinegar is, by itself, one of the best glass cleaners available. Dusting You can also use re-used dryer sheets in place of magnetic cloths, such as “Swiffer” cloths. Dryer sheets are also great for dusting, particularly television screens.

A Warning About Bleach and Ammonia

If you are mixing your own floor cleaners, never mix ammonia and bleach, as the fumes are toxic. Once you have made a homemade floor cleaner, you will probably want to try to make other cleaning products. You may even enjoy using some every day products in ways to clean your home. wilhelm at bestfloorcleaning. com

With its release of the Roomba series of personal home and office robotic vacuum cleaners, iRobot has transformed the vacuuming world. The Roomba vacuum is a nifty, little device that it pretty much set and forget. Its intelligence, scanners and sensors all work together to make sure every cleaning mission is accomplished successfully and it’s very thorough about it. Roomba vacuum cleaners are about the size of a large dinner plate and they scurry about the home or office in a search and destroy for just about anything you can sweep up. They are agile enough to operate over carpets and hard floors and little infrared sensors can be placed atop stairs to make sure they know where not to go.

iRobot designed these robotic vacuum cleaners with a circular, low profile design to navigate around almost any furniture, along walls and baseboards and under furniture. With millions sold world wide and a very happy customer base it’s easy to see that the Roomba vacuum cleaner is here to stay and why it has already given birth to off spring. The different versions of these vacuum cleaners include the Roomba Discovery, Roomba Sage, Roomba Scheduler and several others, all with different traits depending on the needs of the person who requires them and the cleaning jobs at hand.

Don’t be fooled by this seemingly all mechanical cleaning robot. The Roomba has a very unique, kind of cute personality to it. It has little beeps and blips that tell you about what it’s doing or experiencing at certain times. Many people are affectionately referring to them as “he” or “she” and some even have pet names for them like “Blip” or “Suzi”. Some families even sit just to watch it do its thing, just for the entertainment value. What’s good about this is that it’s actually doing something productive and useful. Thousands have reported their surprise to the effectiveness of using their Roomba vacuum cleaners and realize that it’s not just a gimmicky, robotic buddy but is also a helping hand.

The vacuum cleaner industry has definitely made a leap forward because this type of technology and seemingly will learn a whole lot from it. It’s easy to see new advancements in the coming years from simple vacuums to maybe even cleaning our cars and washing our bathrooms. Maybe I’ve spoken a little too soon! I forgot to mention the other two iRobot vacuuming devices that stemmed from the original Roomba. The new Scooba is very much like the Roomba but it scrubs and washes hard floors… even “hardwood” style floors. There is also the iRobot Dirt Dog, which is meant for shop vacuuming jobs

iRobot’s Roomba is kinder, gentler solution to its company’s original and still existing purpose. They manufacture robots that seek out and do things the humans can’t, don’t want to do or are too dangerous (bombs squad, law enforcement and military). They’ve been preserving lives with the use of such technologies. The Roomba uses similar searching and robotic intelligence to find and clean the dirt on the surface of home, office and now shop floors everywhere.

Vacuum cleaners have been around since over a century now. They are considered to be indispensable units for housecleaning purposes. They are known for their convenience and efficiency. Running a vacuum cleaner over the surface to be cleaned will effectively remove the dirt and dust present in that particular area. Vacuum cleaners are known to remove any object from the surface provided it is light enough for the suction that it creates and can enter its inlet valve.

One reason why vacuum cleaners are preferred over traditional cleaning equipment such as brooms and mops is that they do not need the mechanical force that these devices need and because they are much more effective at the cleaning process itself. One more advantage is that vacuum cleaners can be used on horizontal, vertical as well as inclined and inverted surfaces and can clean even inaccessible nooks and crannies easily, something that traditional cleaning devices cannot do.

There are various kinds of vacuum cleaners used for a variety of purposes today. The hundred odd years since their first invention has allowed them to evolve and become highly convenient and purposeful objects today. There are vacuum cleaners that are designed to remove solid as well as liquid particles known as wet/dry vacuum cleaners, vacuum cleaners that can be used in an upright posture known as upright vacuum cleaners, canister vacuum cleaners, handheld vacuum cleaners, lint removers, bug cleaners and many more. Some of the more versatile vacuum cleaners comes outfitted with hoses of various dimensions. At the same time, there are vacuum cleaners of various shapes, sizes and bulk.

A typical vacuum cleaner will contain an inlet valve, a fan with electric motor and an exhaust valve. The fan is the most important component. It is designed with slanted blades so that when it moves, it can create a higher pressure below (where the inlet valve is present) and a lower pressure above (where the exhaust valve is present). Air has a tendency of moving from an area at higher pressure to an area at lower pressure. Thus, when the fan is put on, a current of air begins to move from the inlet valve to the exhaust valve. The electric motor connected to the fan energizes it for its motion.

The inlet valve is separately energized. It contains a horizontal cylinder with a spiral brush arrangement on it. When the cylinder rotates (it can rotate at high speeds), the entire brush comes in contact with its surface. As it moves, the brush sweeps out the dust and dirt particles from the surface. Once loosened, these particles move with the flow of air in the direction of the current.

A dust bag is attached somewhere between the inlet valve and the exhaust valve. It may be placed in between the inlet valve and the fan (as in canister vacuum cleaners) or it may be placed between the fan and the exhaust value (as in upright vacuum cleaners). The purpose of the bag is to collect the particles as they move with the air current. These bags also act as filtration devices. They are porous but with pores so tiny that the air can pass out of it but the dust and dirt particles remain trapped within.

Bags will accumulate these particles till they collect so much of it that it will reduce the efficiency of the cleaning process and will need to be emptied out. From here, the air current moves out of the exhaust valve. The current is continuous as long as the vacuum cleaner is in operation.

Some vacuum cleaners will need their bags to be replaced often while some of them will not use bag arrangements at all, but a compartment where the particles are collected. Even these will need to be emptied out, but they make replacement bags unnecessary due to which they have become more popular. Vacuum cleaners are measured by two factors – the amperage, which is the power of the motor driving the fan, and the gallon capacity, which is a reference of how much air current it can take in at one time.

I bet you have all seen the Roomba run around the house and clean floors. Now as an improvement of to earlier models, iRobot has come up with the Roomba Scheduler, the latest Roomba so far. It has the regular Roomba elements plus the famed scheduler feature. The Roomba Scheduler belongs to the third generation Roomba models and is released in 2005 by iRobot. It is available on the 560 model.

The Roomba Scheduler feature is what makes Roomba rock. The upgrade made room cleaning totally supervision-free. With this feature, you can set Roomba to work on a certain time of the day. Now Roomba can work even when you’re not at home or during the night when kids are asleep. With the same technology as the earlier Roombas, it cleans the entire floor using the random walk algorithm it is programmed with. It would cover the entire room for as long as there’s no virtual wall that would block its path.

The virtual wall device is used with the Roomba Scheduler. Once detected by the Roomba, it would turn around and go the opposite direction as if bumping into a real wall. It is especially helpful to block the Roomba Scheduler from going into places where cables and wirings are astray as it is definitely not fond of it.
The Roomba is disk-shaped about 34 centimeters in diameter and 4 inches in height. It is designed that way for it to be able to go under tables and sofas while cleaning. That’s another good point for the Roomba. Upright vacuum cleaners won’t reach those spots. With a Roomba Scheduler, you need not move stuff around.

They had added an extra sensor on Roomba Scheduler so it would detect the dirtier part of the room. It would then tend to go that area and clean it more. An infrared sensor would all tell the Roomba Scheduler that there’s a ledge or stairs near therefore it would roll away from it.

The Roomba Scheduler has to be cleaned regularly. Compared to it predecessors, it is easier to clean. You need not unscrew the cover as the previous models require. It is recommended that you clean the Roomba after eight to ten uses. Otherwise, it would just stand there and refuse to work. The Roomba Scheduler can be controlled remotely. And if in case the Roomba got stuck in a place or situation it can’t go out of, it would emit a sound woeful enough for the owner to hear so as to be found and rescued.

Another good feature of the Roomba Scheduler is its ability to go back to its docking station after a cleaning session or when the battery is going low. It would recharge itself automatically so it would be ready for its next cleaning schedule.

The Roomba Scheduler is indeed an effective cleaning companion. With its rich features and capabilities, cleaning the house should no longer be a major concern. Owning one will soon be more or less a necessity nowadays. Anything new that can work competently and unattended is definitely worth checking out. Get a Roomba Scheduler now and see for yourself!

Hoover has made excellent vacuum cleaners for many years. With the recent popularity of canister vacuum cleaners, Hoover has produced a winner with its Windtunnel electronic bagless canister model, the S3765-040.

Design and Features

This vacuum cleaner is not an upright model, so keep that in mind as you compare this machine to others. The main unit sits on the floor with a detachable wand doing the actually cleaning work. Some would say the main unit resembles a prop from the Star Wars movie! This machine features a powerful motor with variable speed controls that controls the suction. All of the controls are designed so that the user can manipulate the vacuum with the touch of a finger. Because of its non-upright and low-profile design , you will find it easy to clean hard to reach places throughout your home. Reaching under furniture is a breeze with this Hoover model. The design is meant to be economic in nature, and users will find that the machine is easy to maneuver within most any average sized room. The entire unit weighs in at 31 pounds, but since the main unit is separated from the actual cleaning wand, it feels much lighter when actually being used. The metal wand of this machine easily detaches from the floor attachment by tapping on a release lever. The cord winds up easily and automatically and, although a bit stiff, it becomes more flexible overtime and use.

Look Ma, No Bags!

As the name suggests, the machine uses no bags. Rather, it utilizes a canister and HEPA filter to trap dust and dirt. Like the more expensive Dyson vacuum cleaners, the Hoover bagless canister model harnesses centrifugal force to separate dust particles, hair, and microscopic dirt from the incoming air. This machine does an excellent job of picking up what other vacuums leave behind. One advantage to the bagless canister models, is that you can see the particles and dirt the vacuum managed to suck up and trapped inside the canister immediately after cleaning. Some consumers find it annoying to have to empty dirt from their vacuum cleaner frequently. Others get satisfaction of seeing that the vacuum cleaner they invested in is doing the job it is supposed to. This Windtunnel model will definitely need more frequent emptying then a vacuum that uses bags, but this minor inconvenience is well worth it in the long run. Keep in mind that bagless vacuum cleaners do need filter replacement occasionally. Be sure to always check on the price of replacement filters before you purchase your machine. Depending on the model, you may find it cost prohibitive to the more traditional bagged options in vacuums.

Price

The Hoover electronic bagless canister vacuum is certainly not the most expensive model on the market, but is not the cheapest either. Bagless vacuums have traditionally been pricier than machines that use bags, but the S3765-040 could be considered a midrange price when compared to other bagless machines. Plan on spending in the neighborhood of $230 for the Hoover bagless model.

Overall Rating

If you would like a vacuum cleaner with considerable maneuverability, excellent performance, and one that requires no bags to replace, then this machine is well worth looking into. Overall, this Hoover bagless vacuum gets a solid four stars out of five. If you are in the market for a bagless machine, give this one a test drive today.

Now, vacuum cleaners are a complete household staple and everyone owns at least one. There are different types of vacuums for different households and there are different types of vacuums for different businesses. In addition, there are vacuum cleaner review sites and vacuum cleaner ratings that will help decide which is the best vacuum brand and model for your home or business. That’s why modernvacuum.com exists!

The basic function of a vacuum cleaner is to lift dirt and particles from the carpet and floors and suck those dirt particles into the body of the vacuum, to later be disposed of. The vacuum cleaner has a motor or an air pump that creates a vacuum, which sucks up the dirt, dust, germs and particles. The very first vacuum designed was in Chicago in 1868. The “Whirlwind” was difficult to operate because the user had to manually crank the motor simultaneously as they were moving the vacuum across the floor. Moreover, at the time the vacuum cleaner designs were very heavy and very awkward.

Years later Melville Bissell invented the Bissell vacuum cleaner. To this day, the Bissell vacuum cleaner is considered one of the best vacuums by various vacuum reviews and vacuum ratings. Hubert Booth invented the first powered vacuum in 1901. He got the idea from watching a demonstration of a tool that blew dust off things and decided he would invent something that sucked up dust instead. Throughout the years there were several more inventors with several more designs for what they thought would be the best vacuum cleaner. Then, in 1907 in Canton Ohio, a young janitor named James Murray Spangler, was tooling around with a box, pillowcase and a fan and realized it made an electric vacuum. Not only did he come across the design for the first electric vacuum but he also was able to put together a design to incorporate a brush that would rotate and thus remove debris. Unfortunately for James Murray Spangler, he could not afford to manufacture the vacuum cleaner so he sold his patent. The patent was sold from James Murray Spangler to W. H. Hoover and became the famous Hoover vacuum.

Recently, the Dyson vacuum became popular in households across the world. The Dyson was the first cyclone action vacuum cleaner. James Dyson, inventor and designer of the Dyson vacuum, first launched his product in Japan in the 1980s and later in the UK. The major benefit to a cyclone vacuum cleaner is it does not need bags. Determining which vacuum cleaner is the best vacuum cleaner for your household or business will take some researching and reading up on the various brands of vacuums. Researching the vacuum cleaner reviews and vacuum cleaner ratings will also help you determine which vacuum is the best vacuum for you, so check out our reviews section for more info!
